inABLE Educators Tour M-PESA Foundation Academy

Written by: Carolyn Ngondi, Lead Computer Instructor, InABLE Kenya

Our inABLE computer instructors, accompanied by some of the Thika School for the Blind teachers, had the distinct honor of visiting the M-PESA Foundation Academy to tour the facility and evaluate its technology.

We attended a French class with form one students. Remarkably, every student had an iPad. They could do assignments and submit to the teacher simultaneously as he lectures. There was a type of learning app they had where the teacher could prepare a lesson and share with the students immediately as he starts the lesson.

The technology at the Academy really interested the teachers and helped them to see the value of the iPads at their own school, provided by inABLE. They previously felt as if they were wasting a great resource without fully understanding its value. The teachers now desire to have the same kind of learning apps.

To encourage collaboration between our two schools, the Academy extended an invitation to support inABLE and the Thika School for the Blind by training our teachers on how to use the learning apps. We are also discussing the possibility of exchange programs between the schools so that students can share idea and knowledge through learning and also co-curricula activities.
