Job Description
To empower learners with visual impairments in the acquisition of computer skills.
Job Objective
To empower learners with visual impairments in the acquisition of computer skills. This will include but is not limited to Keyboard & typing skills, Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the Internet, and accessibility.
The job holder will offer computer training to the special needs students using assistive technology software, evaluate the learners, empower/ mentor the students, and manage classroom dynamics.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily running of the computer lab.
- Introduce Visually impaired learners to the world of computers and Assistive Technology.
- Assist in training Visually impaired students and teachers in basic and advanced computer skills (Computer packages, internet, Assistive technology etc.)
- Introduce learners, teachers, and interns to computer programming and web development. (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript).
- Troubleshooting and maintaining computer hardware and local network in the labs.
- Manage and secure the organization’s documents and data stored locally and in the cloud.
- Work with the station leads in creating social media stories and blogs.
- Mentoring and counseling young learners to boost their confidence, self-esteem, and abilities.
- Observing and managing classroom dynamics.
- Evaluate students’ performance, maintain an environment that is conducive to learning and communicate with station leads.
- Aid teachers and students with assignments and projects that treat ICT as a learning tool. This encourages the integration of technology in the modern classroom.
- Ensure all visually impaired persons can operate computers/computerized devices independently with the help of a screen reader e.g. NVDA and talk back.
- Presenting creative lesson plans which combine education on important issues, events, and proper computer use.
- Provide an interactive learning experience to students.
- Identify and apply various teaching technic/methods that work best for individual students.
- Assist with social networking via Facebook, Twitter, and Word Press blogs.
- Provide students with digital learning resources.
- Tracking and communicating students’ advancement throughout the course.
- Maintaining hardware and downloading important software updates.
- Assist in cleanness of the lab.
- Participate in the preparation, administration marking and processing of computer program examinations.
- Attend all daily program meetings.
Qualifications:
- At least Diploma in ICT / or its equivalent.
- 2 years of relevant work experience. (Teaching skills is an added advantage)
