Job Description
The Communication and Knowledge Manager will lead strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge-sharing efforts for the Inclusive Africa Program. This role is responsible for shaping the program’s visibility, documenting lessons learned, and disseminating best practices to ensure widespread adoption of digital accessibility solutions.
Program Brief:
The Inclusive Africa Program (IAP) is a transformative initiative designed to break barriers preventing youth with disabilities from accessing Africa’s digital economy. The program operates under four pillars: standards development, skills development, knowledge generation, and institutional environment enhancement. This three-year program (2025-2028) aims to implement Kenya’s Digital Accessibility Standards and harmonize them across Africa, fostering systemic change. IAP will also train youth with disabilities as Digital Accessibility Champions and host the annual Inclusive Africa Conference. in ABLE will partner with other stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private sector organizations.
Position Summary:
The Communication and Knowledge Manager will lead strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge-sharing efforts for the Inclusive Africa Program. This role is responsible for shaping the program’s visibility, documenting lessons learned, and disseminating best practices to ensure widespread adoption of digital accessibility solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Communication & Advocacy
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with the program’s objectives.
- Craft and disseminate engaging content for multiple platforms, including press releases, reports, social media, newsletters, and donor updates.
- Oversee digital communication efforts, including website management, social media campaigns, and multimedia content development.
- Coordinate media outreach, ensuring strong visibility of program milestones and advocacy efforts.
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media houses, and communication partners to amplify IAP’s impact.
2. Knowledge Management & Dissemination
- Design and implement a knowledge management system to capture program learnings, research findings, and impact stories.
- Oversee the development of policy briefs, case studies, white papers, and best practice guides to influence policy and practice.
- Ensure knowledge-sharing through stakeholder dialogues, reports, and interactive digital platforms.
- Manage a database of resources, ensuring easy access to key reports, publications, and training materials.
3. Stakeholder Engagement & Public Relations
- Lead engagement with key stakeholders, including governments, donors, private sector partners, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities, and civil society organizations.
- Support the planning and execution of the Inclusive Africa Conference, ensuring high visibility and stakeholder participation.
- Facilitate quarterly convenings and workshops to strengthen collaboration between program partners and knowledge-sharing networks.
- Represent IAP at regional and international forums to advocate for digital accessibility policies and inclusion initiatives.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) for Communication
- Track the reach, engagement, and impact of communication and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Ensure the integration of gender, equity, and social inclusion principles in all communication and knowledge management efforts.
- Develop regular progress reports and impact assessments showcasing program achievements and lessons learned.
5. Capacity Building & Team Leadership
- Train and mentor program staff on effective communication, advocacy, and knowledge management.
- Supervise a communications team, including content creators, social media managers, and knowledge management specialists.
- Collaborate with partner organizations to strengthen their communication capacity in digital accessibility.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in communication, knowledge management, and stakeholder engagement in development programs.
- Proven ability to develop and execute communication strategies for large-scale programs.
- Strong experience in digital content creation, social media management, and public relations.
- Expertise in knowledge management, research dissemination, and policy advocacy.
- Experience working with international donors, NGOs, governments, and private sector partners.
- Strong writing and editing skills with experience in developing high-quality reports, publications, and media materials.
Preferred:
- Experience working on digital accessibility and disability inclusion initiatives.
- Familiarity with media engagement strategies and crisis communication management.
- Knowledge of visual storytelling, data visualization, and multimedia content production.
- Ability to work in a multi-country environment with diverse stakeholders.
