Collins Maikuva Shamala, who has low vision due to Albinism, was one of the fortunate special-needs students in Kenya to benefit from the inABLE Computer-labs-for-the-Blind program. Collins attended computer classes provided by inABLE in collaboration with the Thika Primary School for the Blind for eight years. During this time, he was dedicated, disciplined, and self-motivated. Collins performed admirably in coding class and took part in peer-to-peer training, where he assisted other blind and visually impaired students in better understanding computer concepts.

Collins earned good grades in primary school and was admitted to Aquinas Boys High School, an integrated school that accepts students with special needs. Despite his vision problems, Collins beat the odds and received an A- on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education test. This accomplishment brings him a step closer to achieving his goal of attending a good university to pursue his dream of becoming a medical doctor.

Collins’ outstanding academic performance was recently highlighted on one of the leading local television stations. Watch now!

The accomplishments of all of our students, including Collins’, fill us with pride as an organization. We join the rest of the country in congratulating Collins. We can’t wait to see him achieving his dreams.
