Haben Girma, a global disability rights advocate, will deliver the keynote address on Day 1 of the Inclusive AFrica Conference on October 8, 2020, at 10:45 a.m. EAT.

“Over the years, I’ve been inspired by powerful and knowledgeable women who, through their remarkable achievements and leadership, break the glass ceiling, changing the world one step at a time.” Haben Girma is one of the world’s change agents,” Irene Mbari-Kirika, inABLE’s Founder and Executive Director, said.

We have the honor of welcoming Day 1 keynote speaker Haben Girma from 10:45-11:45 a.m. EAT. Haben will conclude the first day of the conference with a powerful speech emphasizing the rights of people with disabilities (PWDs), the power of education, and the importance of equal opportunities for all.

Haben is a highly decorated speaker who has received recognition from some of the world’s most powerful leaders, including President Bill Clinton, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Chancellor Angela Merkel, and President Barack Obama, who named her a White House Champion of Change.

Haben is the first deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School and a respected advocate for people with disabilities. She was honored with the Helen Keller Achievement Award and was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.

Disability, according to Haben, is an opportunity for innovation. She travels the world teaching people about the importance of choosing inclusion. Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law, her best-selling book, was featured in the New York Times, Oprah Magazine, and the Today Show.

To echo the words of Martin Luther King, Jr., “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education”. Written by: ESTHER MWANGI, inABLE Public Relations Officer
