Born without arms and operating mostly with one leg, Sammy Brayo has never let disability define the limits of his life. Instead, he has embraced his difference as a gift and a path to discover multiple talents. Today, he is a motivational speaker, award-winning musician, swimmer, footballer, artist, content creator, pianist, and chess player based in Nairobi.

“My journey has been shaped by accepting myself and discovering that I am multitalented,” he says. “When I accepted who I am, I decided to explore different talents, and God amazed me that I can do almost everything.”

Sammy’s first discovery was writing. As a child, he would snatch his cousin’s pen to scribble notes, sparking a love for expression that soon grew into drawing. From there, more talents began to unfold. “It started with writing, then drawing, and from then on, God revealed to me other talents,” he recalls.

Music, for Sammy, is both a calling and a tool for hope. His songs inspire, motivate, and encourage, carrying a message rooted in his faith: that all things are possible through Christ. Recognition for his music has come with awards that he describes as a win not just for himself, but for all persons with disabilities. “Recognition means that in whatever one is doing, there is always somebody watching, and one day, your efforts will bear fruit.”

Beyond music and art, sports are central to his life. A passionate swimmer, Sammy finds joy in the water and values the lessons it teaches him: persistence, patience, and determination. Football, another lifelong love, has taught him unity and the value of teamwork. He recalls how, as a child, neighborhood kids would knock on his door to invite him to play, a memory that cemented his bond with the game. “Football has taught me that when you work towards something, you will definitely achieve it,” he says.

Challenges have not been absent. From the slow recognition of art in Kenya to physical barriers at performance venues, Sammy has had to push through. “Some events have stairs that I am forced to climb to perform my music,” he explains. “I overcame this with determination, but I always remind organizers to make it easier for PWDs.”

As a motivational speaker, Sammy’s key message is simple yet powerful: never lose hope in life. It is a lesson he shares with audiences across Kenya, along with his encouragement to young people with disabilities: “Accept yourself and get out of your comfort zone. Somebody may want to support you if you are making an effort in your own life, and doors will always open through persistence and determination.”

Sammy draws strength from God, his mother, family, and friends, whose support fuels his journey. Looking ahead, his dream is to continue giving hope to others. “Anything is possible if you have a positive mindset,” he says.

Sammy has also found value in inclusive platforms such as the Inclusive Africa Conference, where he has had the chance to network and showcase his talents. “Inclusivity is very evident when organisations like inABLE give persons with disabilities opportunities to perform on big stages,” he notes. For him, such opportunities expand not only his reach but also the visibility of disability inclusion in action.

Sammy Brayo’s story is one of resilience, purpose, and limitless potential. A reminder that disability is not inability, and that every talent, once embraced, can inspire a world of possibility.
