Toward the end of 2019, inABLE.org was fortunate to host a team of guests from the MasterCard Foundation, a globally respected organization.

MasterCard Foundation representatives Andrew Kaylee Stewart and Andrew Okuzuwa accompanied inABLE Board Member Joe Kiarie, Tangaza University College Lecturer Brenda Kiema, and inABLE Business Development Manager George Siso on a tour of the inABLE computer labs at Thika Primary School for the Blind on December 10th.

They were all given an overview of inABLE’s efforts to empower blind and visually impaired youths in Africa through computer assistive technology. Furthermore, the benefits of computer literacy and how blind and low vision students learn to use computers were discussed.

The enthusiastic group interacted with the students, who were busy in the inABLE computer lab working on various assignments ranging from typing or using Microsoft Office Word to coding using basic HTML. Our visitors learned about the learning process from the students and observed how the students used various software applications on the computers.

Anthony Wambua, a blind intern in the inABLE Computer Labs for the Blind program, had the opportunity to demonstrate his coding skills, which impressed our MasterCard Foundation visitors. They couldn’t believe that a blind person could not only explain how coding works, but also teach coding to blind students at school.
