Donate NowOn 26 January 2026, Thika High School for the Blind hosted a digital accessibility orientation that marked an important step in preparing learners for Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum and for life beyond the classroom. Grade 10 students gathered in the school’s computer lab to build practical skills in accessible technology, guided by inABLE in partnership with the school.
Disability inclusion begins by listening to people whose lived experience sits at the intersection of disability, culture, technology, and youth leadership. Jasmine Muchilwa’s story reflects that intersection. Her journey as a deaf young woman, storyteller, author, and disability inclusion advocate highlights the barriers many deaf children face and the change that becomes possible when lived experience shapes solutions.
Since 2014, inABLE has partnered with St. Lucy’s Primary School for the Blind in Igoji, Meru County, to expand access to inclusive digital education for learners who are blind or have low vision. In February 2024, the program expanded to St. Lucy Senior School for the Visually Impaired, extending assistive technology and digital skills training to older learners preparing for higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, and independent participation in an increasingly digital world. Together, the two programs have reached more than 2,700 learners, including 262 who are currently enrolled.
Since 2014, inABLE has partnered with St. Oda School for the Blind to transform learning through assistive technology, accessible digital devices, coding, and digital skills training. The program is enabling learners who are blind or have low vision to learn more independently, access education on an equal basis with their peers, and develop skills for higher education, employment, and leadership. Since its launch, the program has reached 2,707 learners, including 179 who are currently enrolled.
Thika Primary School for the Blind and Thika Senior School for the Blind are located in Thika Town, Kiambu County. The primary school was established in 1946 by the Salvation Army to support people who had lost their sight during World War II, while the senior school was established in 1967 to provide academic progression for learners with visual impairments.
Since May 2025, inABLE’s AI Live Captioning program at Kambui School for the Deaf has expanded access to classroom instruction for learners who are deaf or hard of hearing. By converting spoken instruction into real-time captions, the program enables learners to follow lessons more independently, participate with greater confidence, and access regular exposure to written language that supports literacy development. Since its launch, the program has reached 140 learners, including 124 currently participating across Grades 5 to 9.
Key Impact Summary Since 15 September 2017, inABLE has partnered with The Salvation Army Likoni School for the Visually Impaired to expand access to inclusive digital learning for learners who are blind or have low vision. Through assistive technology, accessible devices, screen-reader training, coding, and teacher support, the program is enabling learners to access education more equitably, build greater independence, and develop skills for future learning, employment, and leadership. Since its launch, the program has reached 1,633 learners, including 178 who are currently enrolled.
Founded by inABLE in 2023, Kang’aru Digital Hub in Kairi, Kiambu County, is a community-based centre expanding access to technology, digital literacy, coding, and inclusive learning for learners, young people, teachers, and persons with disabilities. The hub equips underserved community members with practical digital skills and the confidence to pursue educational, employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation opportunities. Since its launch, the hub has reached 2,985 beneficiaries, including 414 regular learners currently participating in digital skills activities.
Key Impact Summary Since opening in August 2025, the inABLE Isinya Digital Hub has expanded access to inclusive digital learning in Kajiado County. Through accessible devices, structured ICT and coding training, teacher support, and dedicated opportunities for persons with disabilities, the Hub is helping learners, young people, and adults build practical digital skills, confidence, and independence for education, employment, and community participation. To date, the Hub has reached 2,173 beneficiaries, including 388 learners currently enrolled in the school-based program.
